KUCHING: Sarawakians from most rural areas have been reported to be complying well and commuting orderly, abiding to MCO. This was conveyed by Sarawak Information Department (Japen) in their observation report in which

It states that the rural folks are doing the right thing as far as social distancing and human interaction is concerned.

In the statement, Japen said during its ‘Info on Wheels’ visit programme, the department’s mobile units saw a higher level of compliance in Lundu, Tatau and Pekan Song.

It said there was very little movement of people in these towns.

In Lundu, the unit observed that most of the roadside stalls and mobile hawkers at the wet and night market were closed, compared to the first few days of the movement control order (MCO) implementation.

Tatau was also relatively quiet on payday. People only trickled into the banks and to the ATM machines, unlike under normal circumstances when long queues were the norm.

In Pekan Song, the only sights of patrons were at the grocers and wet markets. The atmosphere here was apparently eerily.

The Japen mobile team while carrying out their observation and monitoring patrol, also aired public announcements, disseminating information on the pandemic to the locals.

The team used loudspeakers and the address was made in the local language.

Meanwhile, the Japen Kuching mobile team patrolled areas encompassing the town vicinity and villages in Lundu including Kampung Bagak, Kampung Sedemak, Kampung Sebikgo, Kampung Rukam, Kampung Titiakar and Kampung Sembawang.

All of Japen mobile teams reported their areas to be compliant to the order.
