S4S applying to be a political party

KUCHING: Gerakan Sarawak For Sarawakians (S4S) has officially applied to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) here to be registered as a political party.

Met after a meeting of the party’s protem committee with ROS Sarawak director Georgina Apphia Ngau at the ROS office, King’s Centre here yesterday, its spokesman Erick Chin said the application was made online via the eROSES system.

Chin said S4S had submitted all the relevant documents and it was now only waiting for their application to be approved by the ROS head office in Kuala Lumpur.

“We will accept whatever decision made by the ROS head office,” he added.

On the proposed name for the party, he said two names, namely Parti S4S and Parti Sarexit had been submitted for approval but Parti S4S would be the preferred choice.

He said the party aspired to fight for the autonomous rights of the state and its people.

“We are willing to work with any local-based political parties which share our goals,” he added.

The party, if approved, will contribute to an increased number of parties contesting for the 82 seats in the State Legislative Assembly in the next state elections.

Currently, there are 11 registered Sarawak-based parties, namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), State Reformed Party (STAR), Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras), Justices of Peace Coalition People’s Party (Peace), Parti Ekonomi Rakyat Bersatu (PERSB) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Four of the parties – PBB, SUPP, PRS and PDP – are components of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
