KUCHING: The results of the 16th Sabah State Election had been expected, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok branch deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

“Well, the result is already out. Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) won the election. The outcome is expected actually,” he told reporters when met after a mooncake presentation ceremony at SJK Chung Hua Primary School No.4 at Jalan Nanas on Sunday.

GRS comprising Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) won the 16th Sabah state elections with a simple majority of 38 seats, versus Warisan Plus’ 32 seats, with Independent candidates winning the remaining three in the 73-seat assembly.

“GRS have won the election, and they will form a government, God willing. And they can appoint another seven assemblymen, so they will stabilise the state government,” Ibrahim opined.

Asked whether the Sabah election will boost the confidence of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 12th State Election, he said, “Well, GPS is totally separate, we are on our own.”

Ibrahim said GPS was not associated with BN, and was only supporting the PN government.

“As you know, the federal government is a PN Plus GPS. That means we are not in PN per se. We formed the federal government together with PN.

“It is not a PN government by itself. It is a PN-plus government,” he said.

Ibrahim refused to speculate on who should be the next Sabah chief minister.

“Well, we leave it to them. We don’t want to interfere in that.

“We did not campaign in Sabah unlike other people who went there… We take care of our own Sarawak,” he said.
