KUCHING: Bubur lambuk (savoury porridge) is a popular dish during Ramadan and it is often distributed to members of the public as sedekah (charity).

As part of its annual programmes and traditions, the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Padungan branch distributed 1,000 containers of bubur lambuk to members of the public here.

The distribution was held today at the Padungan Fire and Rescue Station.

SABERKAS vice president Abang Abdul Aziz Abang Draup said the bubur lambuk were also distributed to nearby fire stations and police stations.

He said this programme falls under SABERKAS’ social, recreation and welfare cluster.

“The programme of giving out bubur lambuk to members of the public is being conducted by all branches of SABERKAS.

“There are currently 78 branches, but we are looking to expand and establish more branches in the near future,” he said when officiating at the programme.

Meanwhile, State Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA Sarawak) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman thanked SABERKAS for choosing the department as a strategic partner for the programme.

He said this is a token of appreciation for the BOMBA personnel who are dedicated and passionate in delivering services to the people.

“The department goes above and beyond when it comes to ensuring that we deliver the best services to the people.

“As such, it is a meaningful gesture for SABERKAS to distribute bubur lambuk to our personnel,” he said.

At the same time, Khirudin assured that the department will continue to intensify its efforts in building a resilient community throughout Sarawak.

He pointed out that not only does the department have important roles in ensuring the safety of people, but the people must also play their roles.

“Everyone has a role to play when it comes to building a resilient community. Through our education and advocating programmes, we are imparting knowledge and providing exposures to the local community.

“This will enable them to be the first line of response in the case of any emergency. We want the people to be able to react immediately and correctly while waiting for the authorities to arrive,” he added.
