KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Stakan branch today distributed 350 Jalur Gemilang (national flags) and Sarawak flags to passers-by, residents and traders along Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa here.

Saberkas exco member Abg Abd Aziz Abg Draup explained that the event was held in conjunction with the upcoming National Month celebration.

“It aims to attract and instil the spirit of patriotism in the local communities, particularly among the youth,” he said after officiating at the event at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Stakan Service Centre on Sunday (Aug 23).

Abg Abd Aziz explained that the flags, meant for cars, were bought with the branch’s funds as well as contributions by some parties.

He pointed out that very few members of the public flew the flags on their cars.

“That is why we are taking this initiative to encourage them to do so,” he said.

“It is very important for us to promote the ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ programme so that the youth know the meaning of the National Day celebration,” he added.
