MIRI: Saberkas is able to succeed for so long since its establishment in 1973 largely due to its structured system, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“We are able to manage our youth very well through the system,” he said during a gathering with 29 veteran members and representatives of Saberkas Piasau at a leading hotel here on Sunday.

He noted that Saberkas was not only strong but respected by other organisations in the country.

“Saberkas’ first president, the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Ya’kub, together with other youth movements at that time had wanted to form a youth organisation to nurture future youth leaders for Sarawak,” he said.

The gathering themed ‘Bakti Mu Dikenang — Kamek Orang Saberkas’ was hosted by Saberkas Piasau.

At the gathering, veteran members of Saberkas Piasau were presented with certificates of appreciation for their contributions to the association.

Also present were newly elected Saberkas president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, secretary-general Shafiee Ahmad, Minister for Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture cum Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting.
