MIRI: Saberkas has agreed to redefine youth for its exco posts as those below 40 years old.

“This was agreed by delegates during the 16th triennial general meeting (TGM),” said Saberkas’ newly elected president, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, at a Saberkas’ dinner held at a leading hotel here on Saturday night.

He said this indicated that the Saberkas youth wanted to see more of its representatives in the exco.

“During a post mortem carried out before we adjourned the TGM for today (September 19), majority of the delegates wanting to see more youngsters in the exco posts.

“This is a strong signal. Our young members want their voices to be heard and we must take note,” said Abdul Karim.

He added he would inform the Registrar of Society (ROS) about the proposed amendment.

“This is a new change for Saberkas and we will adopt this change in tandem with the country’s youth policy,” he said.

Abdul Karim added that Saberkas would be setting up a committee based on the aspirations of the young members.

Also present at the dinner were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Saberkas’  deputy-president, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Saberkas’ secretary general Shafiee Ahmad and 177 delegates from 59 branches.
