KUCHING: Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) held an appreciation ceremony in conjunction with its Annual Parade 2020 ceremony for its officers, media connections and three heroes from the public, here, at Ibu Pejabat Bomba Sarawak, yesterday.

Its director Khirudin Drahman @ Hussaini thanked three members of the public for their bravery ― Carlos Paae (deceased), Noh Yahim and Alexsidi Wifed.

“I wish to express my condolences to the family of the late Carlos Paae on his demise. We have lost a man who had the spirit and blood of a fighter in his body,” he said.

The late Carlos Paae, 16, from Kanowit died while trying to save the lives of three of his friends who were caught in a drift in the Kanowit River on Feb 24 last year.

Noh Yahim, 49, is from Kampung Bako. He saved the life of a Sarawak Energy staff member from drowning after falling off a boat on March 26 2016.

Alexsidi ran back and forth in the longhouse three times in search for fire extinguishers. If not for his effort, the longhouse could suffer a tragedy.

“The department greatly values the extraordinary service, sacrifice and courage, demonstrated by these individuals who risked their lives to save victims from tragedies,” Khiruddin said.

Khirudin also awarded certificate of appreciation to several Bomba officers.

Among the recipients were Law Poh Kiong from Zone 5, Mahmudin Narudin (Sarikei); Nicholas Belulin (Bintangor); Maureen Sim Ah Lian (Marudi); and Mat Undek (Simunjan).

Khirudin also thanked the media saying, “On behalf of the department, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to each and every media practitioner who has contributed so much to this organisation.”
