DARO: Some 300 people attended the launch of a district-level Independence Month and Fly the National Flag 2019 programme here on Friday.

Daro district officer Bujang Rahman Seli flagged off the Independence Tour convoy comprising 50 vehicles driven by government agencies, trainees from Igan and Daro Giat Mara as well as individuals.

Speaking during the launch, he advised the people to be thankful for the various benefits arising from the country’s independence.

“Our country’s independence should be safeguarded so that development programmes could be continued for the benefit of the people including the future generations,” he stressed, adding that racial unity was important for a multi-racial country like Malaysia.

Acting Daro information officer Rizalman Daim said the main purpose of the programme was to create awareness among the people regarding the spirit of patriotism.

Various Merdeka @ Komuniti programmes were held including children and adults colouring competition, creative independence dress competition, independence talk and quiz involving primary and secondary school students here and Matu.
