DARO: Assemblyman Safiee Ahmad wants to entice more visitors to the district by spicing it up with more development and attractions.
“I have informed Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg we want Daro to be a ‘beautiful lady’.
“Therefore, we have to think of how to attract more people to come to Daro, and that is by offering more attractive places.
“We want Daro to be like Venice also,” he said during the leaders with the people programme at the Daro New Township Hall today.
Safiee said among the attractions was to construct a waterfront for the district that would cost about RM35 million.
“The waterfront will be unique as it will include several elements to cater for tourists, families including the youth,” he said.
Apart from that, he said Daro needs a proper place for fishermen and farmers to sell their produce.
“With the completion of the bridge from Sibu to Daro and with the new market, visitors from Sibu can come here to get fresh produce.
“In addition, this will create job opportunities and at the same time improve the socio-economy of the local residents here,” he said.
Later, Abang Johari approved the requests and Safiee conveyed his appreciation to the state government, especially the Premier for looking after the needs of the rural areas.
