KUCHING: Media practitioners are advised to be transparent and brave when reporting news.
Assistant Minister of Corporate Affairs, Abdullah Saidol said that reporters should be reporting news as it is without having to care for the benefit of any state assemblymen or ministers.
“Some are afraid because their reports reflect what these individuals have not done correctky either in their constituency or for their ministries.
“Just remember this, when you know you have done a good job, you will go home feeling happy and satisfied,” he said.
Abdullah was speaking during the Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Month Assembly and Gawai Raya celebration held at its Sarawak headquarters yesterday.
He added that media practitioners are facing major challenges in the industry due to the existence of alternative media.
“It is due to this that I respect any media practitioners who are brave in stating something which is true to have a balance between the government’s and the people’s needs. This is the root of the establishment of media.
“Aside from that, I would like to also urge the people to stay united even though the festive season (Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri) is almost over.
“It should not only be practised during festive seasons, but all year round,” said Saidol.
A total of 100 staffs of RTM were present for the assembly and the celebration of their Gawai Raya.
