KOTA SAMARAHAN: Rubiah Wang has called on the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to make preparations to face any potential floods in Samarahan.

According to a Facebook post by the Kota Samarahan Parliamentary Service Centre on Tuesday (Aug 31), the Kota Samarahan MP said this during an inspection visit and proposal to improve the drainage system at Kampung Entingan and Kampung Nangka the day before.

The visit was also attended by Kampung Nangka chief Minggu Julang and staff from Samarahan DID.

Rubiah requested DID to look back at the flood that occurred in February this year, which happened very quickly after heavy rains overnight.

Aside from upgrading the drainage and irrigation system in the villages, she also requested for a new mechanism to be put in place to overcome the flood problem.

This included the introduction of a centralised rainwater reservoir lake to ensure that overflowing rainwater can be channelled to the reservoir area and flow to major rivers such as Sungai Sabang and Sungai Batang Samarahan.

Earlier that day, as shared in another post, the MP also paid a visit to the family of the late Air Corporal Mohammad Ehsan Sehamat at Kampung Asajaya Laut.

The late Mohammad Ehsan had perished in the shooting incident at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Squadron Camp in Kota Samarahan on Aug 13.

During Rubiah’s visit, she said the loss of the late Mohammad Ehsan had saddened many people, not to mention his wife who is pregnant with their child.

She reminded the public to give room and opportunity to the authorities to conduct a more detailed investigation and also to not make any speculations related to the case.

She followed the development of this case closely with the authorities and consulted with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to ensure that the welfare of the late Mohammad Ehsan’s wife could be assisted accordingly.
