Dolphins, sharks, killer whales and now probably the most terrifying ride in California: SeaWorld is building a massive new roller coaster.

A giant new roller coaster is being built at SeaWorld marine park in San Diego. Brave visitors of America’s eastern coast will be able to go on the Dive Coaster Mako, touted as the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in California, when it opens in 2020.

The ride, named after the Makohai, one of the fastest fish species, spans 762 metres and reaches speeds of up to 97 kilometres per hour. Highlights include a 90 degree plummet, loops and barrel rolls.

Alongside dolphins, penguins, sharks and killer whales in an oceanarium and outdoor aquarium, the animal theme park is already home to countless rides. – dpa
