Sape Junior 2023 Competition to feature six finalists

KUCHING: Six finalists will compete for the title of ‘Sape Junior 2023’ at the Auditorium P.Ramlee RTM Kuching next Saturday.

The finalists include Martinus Njok Sebi, Ferderick Maldini, Darren Mengga Larry Mengga, Stanford Rayan Sidi, Aeron Junior Ibas, and Ernest Vaneman Amut Leonard.

The first round requires each finalist to present a traditional sape solo that is not longer than three minutes. In the second round, they must perform a contemporary song and a self-written song, both of which must not exceed five minutes. Professional sape musicians Alena Murang and Jerry Kamit will judge the talented skills of the finalists.

Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts principal assistant secretary Nasir Lariwoo said that the finalists would also perform an RTM Combo during the event.

RTM Sarawak broadcasting department director Nasrul Hakim Md Noh, who was present at the press conference, announced that the winner of the Sape Junior competition would receive a prize of RM10,000. The runner-up and third place will win RM7,000 and RM5,000, respectively. Consolation winners will also receive a cash prize of RM3,000.

The public is invited to witness the Sape Junior competition at the Auditorium P. Ramlee RTM Kuching on May 13 at 9 pm. The event can also be watched live on TV2, RTM Klik app, or Facebook RTM Sarawak
