SAR for missing tugboat man called off

MIRI: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the 35 year-old tugboat man, who went missing in the waters off the Kuala Baram on last Wednesday night was called off yesterday.

According to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri deputy director (operation) Commander Maritime Eizanizam Muhammad Eng the decision was made after no clues were found.

The unanimous decision was made after a discussion was held between the missing tugboat’s father Brahim Bujang, 65 , and the agencies involved.

Since day one of the SAR on Oct 13, the operation involved both land and aerial assets.

“For aerial search, we covered more than 10,000 square km and 25km of the land scale started from Kuala Baru 1 up to Kuala Baram area,” said Eizanizam in a brief press conference held yesterday.

Also present was the missing crew’s father, Brahim Bujang.

On Oct 12 around 9pm, Zainorin Brahim was reported missing after he fell off the tugboat after it was hit by a huge wage while on its way to Miri from Bintulu.

Upon receiving a report on the incident , SAR was immediately activated.

Various agencies were involved in the SAR. Among them were MMEA Miri , Miri Civil Defence Force (APM), the police, Marine Police, Bomba, Shin Yang, PETRONAS, marine community and Brunei Darussalam.
