KUCHING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched to find a foreigner who is feared to have drowned in Sungai Tabuan at the Samajaya Free Industrial Zone last night (Dec 13).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a call from the police around 1.20am this morning (Dec 14) and dispatched firemen from the Tabuan Jaya station to the scene.

The victim has been identified as Stepanus Selat, 22.

However, the search and rescue operations have been carried forward to 7.30am tomorrow due to safety and weather conditions at the search area surrounding the victim’s last known location.

According to the victim’s friend, both of them were casting their fishing nets some five metres away from each other when he found that the victim was nowhere to be seen with his slippers left where he last stood and was feared to have fallen into the river.
