SARATOK: The search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate a foreigner who fell into a river in Maludam on Oct 10, has been called off.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the decision was made around 2pm on the police’s advice.

The search will only be reactivated if any clue is found.

It was reported that the search on Today (Oct 17) was carried out in an 8km radius upstream and downstream of the Saribas River.

The operation involved a total of 32 rescuers with three boats and a drone.

On Oct 10, the 21-year-old victim, identified as Atul Couhairi, is believed to have fallen from a ship carrying sand, which was docked at a concrete plant.

The incident was confirmed by a colleague who witnessed the whole thing.
