SAR operation launched to find missing 27-year-old man

Firemen from Saratok station carrying out the search operation to locate the missing 27-year-old victim at Kampung Seberang, Meludam.

SARATOK: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched to locate a 27-year-old man reported missing after failing to return home at Kampung Seberang, Meludam today.

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department (Bomba) said firemen from Saratok station were despatched to the scene after receiving a call from the Sri Aman police around 7.25am.

According to the police report, the victim identified as Abang Mohd Norazat Abang Salim, had gone out fishing alone around 3pm yesterday at the upper shore of Sungai Meludam.

The victim has since not return home thus, prompting a missing person report to be lodged at the police station.

At 12pm today, rescuers managed to find the victim’s shoes and fishing rod, however, its owner was nowhere to be seen.

The search was conducted via water surface searching in about 2 to 3km radius from where the victim’s belongings were found.

Also involved in the search operation using boats are the Civil Defense Force (APM) and villagers.

Other than that, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) were also called in to assist in the search after the team spotted a crocodile nearby, about 30m from the victim’s shoes and rod.

As at press time, the victim is still not found.
