KUCHING: Local business owners and skilled individuals can now become official service providers or merchants under the Sara-X app — a platform created by the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Commercial.

This digital platform was launched in 2019 and is known as Sarawak Expert. It will promote business and services effectively with its user-friendly design that allows anyone to utilise its functions and features.

In promoting the Sara-X apps, Centexs Commercial has organised a campaign ‘Jum Daftar dan Jum Guna Sara-X’ that is slated to begin this year.

The campaign will be held throughout the whole of Sarawak starting with Kuching and Kota Samarahan as its first two locations. While targeting service providers (merchants) and the general public to install Sara-X, the campaign also aims to educate the public and promote awareness on Sara-X, its significance and specialities.

As a digital marketing platform, local communities can gain more exposure for their business — particularly for those offering technical services such as grass cutters (landscaping services), hairdressers, technicians of various fields, runner services, and more.

Centex Commercial general manager Mohamad Shahren Mohamad Yusri urged such individuals to take part and utilise the application as it will market their businesses.

Mohamad Shahren said those who signed up with Sara-X would be able to attend courses.

“There are individuals with skills but lack in terms of certification. Thus, Sara-X will provide recognition training courses for our merchants. The course will be free and they will receive a Recognition Prior Experience (RPE) certificate,” he said.

Currently, Sara-X has 150 service providers, and Centexs Commercial is targeting to reach 1,000 service providers by this year.

Sara-X Phase 1 — Recruitment of local business owners from respective communities as merchants.

“Many people are still asking around within their connections or sometimes via Google to search for these types of services. With Sara-X, future clients can now use the application to search and pick the services based on the categories listed,” he said.

On the matter of development and the maintenance of the application, he assured that merchants need not worry as the Sara-X team will bear the application, including marketing and promotional aspects.

“Local business owners and skilful individuals will only need to focus on providing their services and generate income easily.

Concerning Covid-19, he said individuals whose income had been affected could also join Sara-X as a platform to generate income to ease their burden.

Sara-X Phase 2 — Expanding the professions among the merchant circle by recruiting professional merchants such as lawyers, teachers, consultants, experts, tutors, trainers and more.

He pointed out that the Sara-X is in line with the Sarawak digital economy plan. The apps offer a digital ecosystem that will support the people of Sarawak to thrive in the rapidly evolving technology-driven era.

All registered service providers will undergo a background check to ensure that the service provided is the best in its field.
