KUCHING: Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju has praised Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin saying he was among the best prime minister the nation ever had.
Refuting the claim by former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Syed Husin Ali that the formmer prime minister was the worst leader to have served the nation, Ali said Muhyiddin had sacrificed his job due to his principles.
“It is hardly surprising that Syed Husin should launch this kind of abusive attack upon the former PM. He is a longtime PKR leader and a hardcore supporter of (PKR president Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim. His view is hopelessly tainted by an aggressive partisan-ship.
“Muhyiddin is not the worst PM, but ranks among the best we have ever had. No other PM before him had sacrificed his job by refusing to compromise upon an important principle.
“He preferred to sacrifice his position as PM, rather than give in to kleptocrats or interfere with court matters,” said Ali, who was a deputy minister in Muhyiddin’s cabinet which resigned en masse on Aug 16 after several MPs from Umno retracted their support for the then prime minister.
On Syed Husin’s claim that Muhyiddin was to blame for not garnering enough majority, the MP said it was PH which colluded with kleptocrats to undermine the prime minister’s majority in Parliament in the middle of a health crisis.
Ali who is also Krian assemblyman said Muhyiddin was the only prime minister to offer seven major reforms which would have far-reaching effect on the political landscape of the nation.
“These reforms were proposed by envoys from the opposition in a series of meetings but when made public by Muhyiddin, were flatly rejected by the opposition leaders,” he said.
