KUCHING: The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) in collaboration with the World Bank’s Governance Global Practice Team held a pivotal engagement session and workshop on Climate Change Institutional Assessment (CCIA) at the Pullman Hotel here.
The workshop on Thursday (May 23) marked a significant step towards strengthening Sarawak’s climate resilience and institutional frameworks.
The primary objectives of the mission were to present the progress and initial findings of the CCIA, gather detailed responses through interviews, understand the challenges of coordination on climate action for a pilot case study, and assess Sarawak’s climate institutional concerns and technical assistance needs to enhance the state’s capacity to tackle climate change.
The workshop was attended by key stakeholders from various ministries, departments, agencies, and government-linked companies, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
The workshop commenced with opening remarks by MEESty permanent secretary Abg Ahmad Abg Morni followed by senior public sector specialist and task team leader at the World Bank, Dr Marco Larizza.
“The insights and data gathered during this session are expected to significantly enhance Sarawak’s climate action strategies and institutional capabilities.
“This engagement is part of a broader initiative to position Sarawak as a leader in climate resilience and sustainable development, ensuring that the state is well-prepared to meet future environmental challenges,” Abg Ahmad said.
Also present during the sharing session were controller of Environmental Quality, Jack Liam; MEESty deputy permanent secretary Rusmaliza Mat Darus; and lead economist at the World Bank, Dr Apurva Sanghi.
