KUCHING: ‘Sarawak Baru’ is what the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are aiming for in the next state election, which should be in 2021.

Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament and DAP veteran, Lim Kit Siang, said that following the creation of New Malaysia after the 14th general election, it makes sense to also create ‘Sarawak Baru’ to differentiate it from the old Sarawak under the Barisan Nasional.

Kit Siang was speaking at Pakatan Harapan (PH) dinner themed ‘Harapan Sarawak Baru’ at Imperial Hotel, on Sunday night.

He conceded that building a new Malaysia (and new Sarawak, for that matter) is not easy, taking perhaps 10 to 20 years, but he believed that with the support of the people, it could be achieved.

On governance, he talked about the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s desire to transform Malaysia into a country with integrity.

He said PH wants Malaysia to succeed in eliminating kleptocracy (a government with corrupt leaders) and to free the country from corruption.

“We want Malaysia to succeed. We want to achieve fairness and integrity. Those who don’t want this want to go back to the past,” he said.

He said the government’s vision is to for Malaysia to be placed among the top 30 countries in the Transparency International’s (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

In conclusion, he said that after 444 days since the historic change of government on May 9 last year, DAP has suggested that the PH review its promises.
