KUCHING: All bets are in for Sarawak as nine of its best boxers are on the hunt for silverware in the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XX Kuala Lumpur 2022.

The boxing event is set to take place from Sept 17 to 24, with head coach Muhammad Helman Morni taking first position.

The squad will be led by world champion Dealoniel Mcdelon Bong who is poised to contribute a gold medal for the Sarawak contingent in the 57kg category.

Eight other boxers include Jackson Chambai Ikeh (51kg), Mohd Syawal Isham (54kg), Wilson Berayin Sumbang (60kg), Mohd Rafieq Murshidi (63.5kg), Mohd Helmi Chieng Firdaus Chieng (67kg), Darren Chng Yong Kui (71kg), Rais Arsyad Sulam (80kg) and Hellary Hendry (86kg).

“All the boxers are fully ready to fight. And the mission begins for all of them to try to win a medal,” said Helman today.

He noted that Mcdelon will most likely bring home a gold medal for the state. However, he believes that other boxers will also be able to contribute in their respective categories.

“There are several other boxers who are seen as having the potential to leave a mark as a medal contributor.

“I am very confident that they will be able to create a surprise in the real competition later,” added Helman.

As such, he hoped that his squad would be able to give their best in all categories.
