Sarawak Business Federation wants a joint task force to reduce red tape

KUCHING: Sarawak Business Federation is committed to continue to seek for stronger representation to government agencies in both state and federal levels.

Its president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg said the federation wants to engage in advocacy and consultation on behalf of its members and business community in the state, particularly on policy matters.

He said among the current missions championed by SBF were the Research and Information Data Unit (RINDU), matters relating to the foreign workers in Sarawak, and a few incoming trade delegations from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to Sarawak.

“We are pleased with the government’s initiative in setting up the International Labour Management Unit (ILMU).”

“We hope this will pave the way for better coordination on matters related to foreign labours approval and human resource management as a whole for Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Karim also suggested for SBF and the government to work together in a joint task force to look at how to reduce red tape and expedite on delivery of the manpower Sarawak needs.

He was speaking at the Chief Minister’s Industry Excellence Awards (CMIEA) 2021 held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on yesterday evening.

A total of 18 companies received awards the under various categories, with two companies awarded as the Best Emerging Company and CMIEA 2021 Outstanding Winner.

Abang Karim congratulated the winning companies for their commitment to hard work in building their businesses in spite of the challenges and having contributed to the growth of Sarawak’s economy.

Meanwhile, the CMIEA 2021 Outstanding Winner was awarded to Independent Oil Terminal, Senari (IOT) Management Sdn Bhd, while the Best Emerging Company was awarded to Sophia Taha Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Two companies won the Micro Company Category Awards, five won under the Small Company Category Awards, eight won the Medium Company Category Awards, and six won the Large Company Category Awards.

CMIEA 2021 themed “Reach for the Stars” is hosted and organised by the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) in collaboration with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and supported by the Sarawak government.

It is the highest state corporate recognition award, and aims to honour and give recognition to outstanding businesses in Sarawak, particularly within the past year where companies demonstrated resilience in navigating COVID-19.

Chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the event and presented the award to all recipients.
