KUCHING: Sarawak has been an avid supporter of charity bodies looking to help fellow Sarawakians in the state.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said that such noble cause by the charitable bodies ought to be supported.
“Serving the needy in society is a worthy cause and deserves support from the public.
“I’m proud that our ministers, politicians have concerted efforts towards ensuring that people who are in need get support,” he said.
He was officiating at the Sarawak Hearing and Aural Rehabilitation Society (Sarawak Hear) dinner at BCCK on Saturday.
Taib said such is the way forward to empower charity associations and wished them every success in the important role they play in society.
“This would raise a generation of people who will be able to serve charity in a more organised manner,” he said.
“From time to time, Sarawak has been consistent in its support of people who wants to serve charity,” he said.
Taib said politicians are not the only one responsible to serve society, the responsibility falls on all members of the society.
“This is the mark of a good society and we need to keep our purpose to serve some good cause through various avenues,” he said.
The head of state also pledged RM50,000 in donation to Sarawak Hear for its operations and future programmes.
Also in attendance were Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah and Sarawak Hear president Prof Dr Tang Ing Ping.
