KUCHING: Sarawak Customs confiscated a container loaded with medicated samsu at Senari Port near here.

Sarawak Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha said the items numbering 1,000 cartons were valued at RM129,679.20 with a total tax of RM116,871.72.

She said the seizure was the result of thorough inspection by Customs personnel on the container, adding: “The shipping agent is believed to have made a declaration, using an invalid Liquor Import Licence, contravening Customs Order (Prohibition on Import) 2017.”

In the statement last Sunday also, Sharifah said the shipping agent made the declaration using Customs Form No. 1 with an invalid Liquor Import Licence at the time of importation to mislead Customs at Senari Port’s entry point.

The items from last Thursday’s seizure were taken to Demak Laut Enforcement Store for safe keeping and further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967.
