Sarawak Design Centre eyes international market

KUCHING: Sarawak Design Centre (SARADEC) aims to penetrate the international market in furniture designs.

According to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), SARADEC chairman Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said the centre’s vision was to become a global design enterprise by 2030.

“This also supports SARADEC’s mission to gain a position for Sarawak furniture in the world market,” he said during the press conference for Design Week 2023 organised by SARADEC at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Themed ‘Design for Tomorrow’, Design Week 2023 aims to showcase creative designs by SayD’signers Sarawak and will be held from this Feb 13-16, at BCCK.

He also said that Sarawak furniture design has attracted the interest of various buyers and collectors at the international level who are attracted by the uniqueness of local products.

“This design can combine culture and nature with native motifs from Sarawak which consists of various cultures and ethnicities,” he said.

He added this was the first time such a programme would be held in Sarawak and it would be an annual activity involving design pavilions, talks and exhibitions.

A total of 3,000 local and international visitors are targeted to visit the Design Week 2023 with more than RM10 million in investment inquiries, he disclosed.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the opening ceremony of Design Week on Feb 13.
