MIRI: Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting is optimistic that Sarawak can achieve its target of five million tourist arrivals this year.

“As of August this year, we have recorded 2.9 million tourists and we are hoping to reach our target within these next few months,” he said.

Ting said this at the closing ceremony of the Borneo Indigenous Tribal Dance (BITD) 2019 held at Miri Times Square last Saturday night.

He said with its uniqueness and cultural diversity, Sarawak is capable of becoming a tourist attraction.

The BITD 2019, which began last Friday, was organised by the Kumpulan Belia Bahagian Miri in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Sarawak.

Various activities have been held during the two-day event such as an ethnic dance competition, homestay products showcase and many more.
