KUCHING: Sarawak contingent which were line-up by upcoming athletes for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2018 won the second place in the International Open Lawn Ball Championship Terengganu Fours 2017 at the Lawn Ball field at Terengganu Sports Complex recently.

The team members, Sharifah Syaza Nisrina Mumtaz Mohd Amirul Hafizi Jafar, Nur Fitrah Rosmadi and Abdul Rahman Aminuddin was only two points behind (10-12) UITM team who emerged champions of the championship, consisting of Mohd Ikmal Imran Mohd Rosli, Muhd Alif Saufi Shaifudin, Aqmal Bdriz Mustakim and Shafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman in the final match.

As the champions UiTM received a cash prize of RM10,000 while Sarawak brought home a cash prize of RM5,000.

Third place went to Express and also took home RM3,000.

Five more teams namely MPK, UiTM B, UMT D, Labuan A and LTRSD were fourth to eighth places respectively.

A total of 60 teams, including those from Hong Kong participate in the tournament.

“Well done to the Sarawak lawn ball team, won the second place in the international tournament last week.

“What was proud, great performance exhibited by our young players is now in the shadow team for Sukma 2018,” said President of the Sarawak Lawn Ball Association (SALBA), Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamed when met recently.

Mahyan believed that the tournament has left a huge impact on Sarawak young players in their efforts to improve the quality of their game.
