KUCHING: A total of RM125 million or more than 62 per cent of the RM200 million allocation by the federal government for the Essential Item Distribution Programme through Community Drumming is being used for Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the implementation of the programme has benefited 500,000 residents from rural areas in the state.

“The programme involved 112 zones including 538 distribution areas in Sarawak,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of the state-level Malaysian Family Aspiration Tour 2022 held at Dataran Perayaan, Petra Jaya today.

Ismail Sabri also said that the government is aware of the significant difference in the prices of goods between urban and rural areas in six states, especially in Sarawak.

“Through this programme, residents in the interior areas or rural areas can enjoy the seven prices of basic necessities as the same price in the city,” he said.
