KUCHING: The decision to limit the face-to-face sessions in schools to examination candidates only shows that the state government is willing to listen to the voice of the people apart from keeping a balance on education.

Kuching Chung Hua Middle School No.1, 3 and 4 management board committee chairman Datuk Richard Wee was commenting on the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s announcement on Jan 16 that reopening of schools on Jan 20 will only apply to students sitting for major examinations.

“In the current situation where the Covid-19 pandemic is still serious, the safety and health of the students should be the main concern and priority. However, balance also need to be struck on the students who are going to sit for major examinations.

“Therefore, with such decision by SDMC, there will be fewer students returning to schools and the schools would be able to adhere strictly to the standard operating procedure (SOP) and guidelines issued by the authorities concerned,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday.

Wee hoped all parents and students would cooperate fully with the school authority to ensure the smooth implementation of the resumption of classes and also follow the SOPs and other guidelines accordingly.

“I also urge schools to be well prepared for the returning students with all necessary precautions and facilities in place,” he added.
