KUCHING: As Christians celebrated Easter today to commemorate Jesus Christ rising from the dead, the Sarawak government also took the opportunity to wish all Christians a happy and blessed Easter.
In his Easter greetings shared by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang wished all Christians Happy Easter.
“Have a blessed and joyous Easter filled with peace and love,” they said in their greetings.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian were also among those who extended their Easter greetings.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang during an event on Sunday also wished everybody a happy Easter.
“I have been driving around town and it is very quiet this morning. This is good as it shows the people are aware that Covid-19 is still around, so everybody is staying at home rather than going out,” he said.
Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister and Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri in a Facebook post also wished all Christian friends a blessed Easter.
“May the Holy Spirit of Easter fill your home with hope, love and peace. And may this year be filled with more blessings and safety for us all,” she said.
Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It also marks the end of Lent when Christians fast and do penance and alms-giving for 40 days.
