Majang speaks at the August house

The Sarawak government holds 100 per cent autonomy over Kuching, Rajang, Miri, Tanjung Manis and Samalaju Port Authorities.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi said it is the Sarawak government’s policy that each port authority be controlled and managed by Sarawakians.

“It is undisputed that ports are crucial and play a significant role in the economic growth of Sarawak.

“On employment matters, all posts pertaining to management and operation in Sarawak port authorities are now filled by Sarawakians,” he said this when replying to Johnny Pang (GPS-Tanjong Batu) during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (Nov 24).

As for Bintulu Port Authority, Majang said it is a federal statutory body under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia.

On a supplementary question relating to the number of personnel serving in Bintulu Port Authority, Majang said there are a total number of 124 personnel with 29 permanent staff in the management and professional group.

Meanwhile, the support group has 95 personnel with 54 permanent and 41 contract staff.

Out of the total number of 124 personnel, he said 118 personnel or 95.2 per cent are Sarawakians.

“Twenty-six out of 29 personnel or 89.7 per cent are Sarawakians in the management and professional group while 92 out of 95 personnel or 96.8 per cent are in the support group,” he added.
