Sarawak had 2.2 mln visitors last Jan to June

KUCHING: A total of 2,230,206 visitors arrived in Sarawak from Jan to June 2019.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the number had increased by 4.58 percent compared to 2,132,529 visitors during the same period last year.

“As for June this year, 432,575 visitors arrived in Sarawak,” he said during the unveiling of the latest Visit Sarawak Campaign 2019 (VSC 2019) advertisement on AirAsia at Kuching International Airport (KIA) yesterday.

Karim said the numbers had also increased by 13.27 percent compared to 381,889 visitors in the same period last year.

“In line with VSC 2019, this is certainly promising to all of us. We hope for the number to rise in the coming months so that we can achieve the target of having five million visitors this year,” he said.

For the VSC 2019, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg launched AirAsia’s aircraft livery last Feb 2.
