Sarawak hits 1K mark

KUCHING: The total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has passed the 1,000 mark after 14 new ones were reported today, with the exact total coming up to 1,011 to date.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said all 14 cases were detected in Kuching in which 12 were from close contact tracing while the rest were from self-screening and symptomatic screening.

“(From the 12) … 10 people underwent screening at government health facilities, one at a private hospital and one at a medical laboratory here,” it said in a statement.

Cases 998, 1,004, 1,005, 1,008 and 1,009 are new cases that had close contact with the positive cases in the Greenhill Cluster while Cases 1,000, 1,006 and 1,007 are new cases related to the Wisma Saberkas Cluster.

“All cases have been admitted to the isolation wards at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment. Close contact tracing is in full swing,” SDMC assured.

On the self-screening case, SDMC said it involved a local resident who did so at a government health clinic on Nov 9.

“Case 999 is an employee of a car battery distributor company here. The case underwent self-screening for fear of having contact with an unknown positive case.

“This case did not show any signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection and has no history of traveling abroad or to areas with Covid-19 infection in Malaysia.”

Meanwhile, the individual screening case involved a local resident who underwent Covid-19 screening due to cough and fever on Nov 10.

“Case 1,001 went to a government health clinic on the same day and underwent Covid-19 screening.

“This case did not show any signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection and has no history of traveling abroad or to Covid-19 areas in Malaysia.”
