KUCHING: Sarawak is in steady hands under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, said Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

The Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) pointed out that four years ago, the change in chief ministership happened at the most unexpected time.

Even so, he described the moment as a smooth takeover when Abang Jo came to lead Sarawak, replacing the late Tok Nan.

He said Abang Jo had proven that he deserved the chief ministership by the looks of how the latter has been leading Sarawak in a good manner despite being an opposition government during the tenure of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and amidst the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic.

“Abang Jo deserves the congratulations for the fourth anniversary of his chief ministership. Initially it was definitely a smooth takeover from the late Tok Nan.

“Then came the tectonic change when the Barisan Nasional (BN), of which the Sarawak ruling party belonged to, lost the federal election and a new government under Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over Putrajaya in May 2018.

“In March last year came the dreaded Covid-19 whereby not only did it pose  health problems, but it had also wreaked economic problems and hardship.

“However, the chief minister has handled the twin problems with steady hands and quiet determination,” he said.

In conjunction with Abang Jo’s fourth anniversary as the chief minister, Talib was confident that Abang Johari will continue to lead Sarawak to a better future, provided that he is given the mandate to do so.

“His emphasis on good governance through enhancement of integrity is also gaining ground and acceptance by the people.

“Let us wish Abang Jo success in his endeavour to lead Sarawak for the good of all Sarawakians,” he added.
