Sarawak-Indonesia business cooperation inked

JAKARTA: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCIS) and Indonesia Chinese Entrepreneur Association (ICEA) on Tuesday (Oct 18) here.

The purpose of the MoU is to establish a basis of cooperation and collaboration as well as to enhance trade and investment between Indonesia and Sarawak.

During the MoU signing ceremony, ACCIS was represented by its president Datuk Tan Jit Kee while ICEA by its president Abdul Alek Soelystio.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching His Excellency Raden Sigit Witjaksono and Mayor of Miri City Council Adam Yii Siew Sang.

“A 46-member delegation led by Tan made a courtesy visit on ICEA in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday (Oct 18) and it was arranged by the General Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching.

“With the signing of the MoU, it lays the groundwork to cooperate with each other to promote the widening and improvement of economic cooperation though commerce, trade, and investment between their respective business communities as well as between Indonesia and Sarawak,” ACCIS said in a statement on Yesterday (Oct 19).

ACCIS expressed hope that both parties will be able to deepen business relations, develop stronger economic cooperation and promote bilateral trade especially in food processing, light industries and tourism which consists of huge cooperation potential among others.

Also present were ACCIS vice president Kuek Eng Mong and Ling Dien Yong, chairman of Digital and Economy Committee Rodger Chan, chairman of Legal Affairs Committee Vincent Lu and chairman of International Trade and Industry Committee Sim Soon Tian.
