KUCHING:  Sarawak is looking forward to hosting the national-level Malaysia Day celebration on September 16 this year, said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

He was commenting on the federal government’s decision to hold the national-level Malaysia Day celebration in Sarawak.

“We welcome the Merdeka Day celebration in the state to further enhance national integration,” he told New Sarawak Tribune at his Hari Raya open house at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Petrajaya yesterday.

Fazzrudin revealed that the state government was informed about the Malaysia Day do in Sarawak a month ago, adding that Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohammad himself had recommended it.

“The matter was discussed by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and our Chief Minister a month ago,” he said.

Fazzrudin scoffed at the State PH chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s statement that he would recommend at the forthcoming cabinet meeting that this year’s national-level Malaysia Day celebration be held in Kuching City.
