KUCHING: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA), Sarawak Branch welcomes all efforts to speed up the Covid-19 vaccination.

Chairman Dr Teh Siao Hean was responding to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who said that Sarawak was looking into the possibility of purchasing extra vaccine to step up the programme.

The deputy chief minister said the additional vaccine would supplement what is currently provided by the federal government.

Dr Teh said the current emphasis was to vaccinate frontliners, especially healthcare workers, who are always in contact with patients.

“A successful effort by the state government in procuring more vaccine supplies would be a positive development in achieving this goal.”

He added that everyone in the state with no medical conditions should receive the vaccine.

He urged the public to register for vaccination through the various avenues including MySejahtera, online, manually and others for phases two and three.

“MMA also hopes that there will be more publicity and public engagement by the authorities to convince people to be vaccinated and also to dispel fears caused by unverified anti-vaccine rumours circulating on social media.

“Proper prioritisation should be done in phase two for best effect on Covid-19 control, with senior citizens and those who are at higher risk of getting severe Covid-19 be given top priority.”
