KUCHING: Following the success of the first edition, the Sarawak Muay Thai Association (PMNS) is set to host the second edition of the Muay Thai Challenge in Samarahan.
The event will take place at Medan Selera Nasi Abe, Kota Samarahan, on Sept 2.
PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim expressed his confidence that this year’s challenge will be even more dynamic and intense, featuring the participation of numerous new boxers.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Sarawak Department of Youth and Sports, the Sarawak Sports Corporation, and Medan Selera Nasi Abe for their support.
“The Muay Thai Challenge serves as a developmental programme aimed at discovering new talents in the sport among the youth in Sarawak.
“Additionally, the event will serve as a platform to identify potential talents for inclusion in the state squad for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024,” he added.
Among the clubs participating are SS Fighter Muay Thai Gym, Rentap Muay Thai Gym, Kenyalang Muay Thai Club, Sting Muay Thai, Kilas Muay Thai Petra Jaya, KRA Muay Thai Club, Legasi Muay Thai Club, Bau Muay Thai Club, and Phoenix Meranek Muay Thai Club.
The event will kick off with participant registration, health checks, weight measurement, and a briefing for managers at 8.30am.
Various activities are planned throughout the day, including Muay Sport matches featuring local boxers from different clubs from 3pm to 6.30pm, as well as a “Try Muay Thai Sports” session from 2pm to 4pm.
