KUCHING: The Sarawak government will be entering into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) as a further step towards acquiring MASWings.

Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said that this MOU will help start detailed discussions and make the process of taking over MASWings smoother.

“With this comprehensive MOU, both parties can have in-depth talks, set clear guidelines, define what they will do, set deadlines, and make sure the acquisition of MASWings happens smoothly,” said Lee in a statement today (July 25).

Earlier, Lee and his delegation from Sarawak visited MAG at the Malaysia Airlines Academy (MAB) in Petaling Jaya on Monday to discuss the acquisition of MASWings by the state government.

The delegation included Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, State Attorney General Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Economic Planning Unit director Lester Matthew, the ministry’s technical advisor for aviation Sio Yew Hua, Corporate Services and Investments Division director Ahmad Faizal Yaman Ahmad Shafiee, Hornbill Skyways Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Miron Kumer Ganguly, and other senior officers.

This came as a follow-up from a meeting with MAG’s main shareholder, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, on July 7, and the signing of an MOU on the acquisition of Rural Air Services (RAS) between the state and federal government on July 20.
