KUCHING: The two-day Kuching Jazz Music Festival 2022, which will kick start tonight has received an overwhelming response from Jazz music enthusiasts, based on the tickets sold.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that after two years of COVID-19 pandemic, the festival is finally making its way back to entertain the jazz lovers with famous jazz artists lined up from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and others.

“It is really good to hear that we have achieved the (ticket sales) target for the two nights and I believe that everyone who is coming to the festival later will be fully entertained and have an enjoyable night.

“The festival will be featuring famous Indonesian entertainers, Afghan as well as our own Malaysian entertainer Noryn Aziz and others. So, for those who still have not yet purchased their ticket, they may do so and come to the Grand Margherita Hotel,” he said.

When asked whether there are any plans to extend the festival from two to three or four nights in future, Karim said a valuation that needed to be done first before considering it to extend the event to more nights.

“If there is a need for the festival to be held for three to four nights, we will consider it because at the moment, we are still looking for a better venue as jazz concerts are always being held in a simple and calm atmosphere. We want them to enjoy the music,” he added.

Karim said this year the fans are coming from different parts of Sarawak, West Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and many other countries.
