KUCHING: A group of 15 media practitioners, led by the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), has embarked on an expedition to conquer Mount Kinabalu in conjunction with Malaysia Day this Sept 16.

The group led by KDJA chairman Ronnie Teo departed from Kuching International Airport to Kota Kinabalu on Sunday (Sept 10).

Teo said among the media personnel involved are from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the Borneo Post, Suara Sarawak, Utusan Borneo, Astro Awani, DayakDaily, Utusan Sarawak, RTM, TVS as well as two firefighters.

He said the expedition is in response to the challenge posed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He added that the group would stay the night at Kinabalu National Park before the climb on Monday (Sept 11).

“All these media practitioners will commence their climb on Monday morning to Laban Rata, which takes about five to six hours and will spend the night there.

“The group will continue the climb at 2am on Tuesday and expect to reach the peak around 6am to 7am,” said Teo at the airport here.

Teo said this marked the third year KDJA is organising a climbing trip to Mount Kinabalu.

Also present to send off the delegation was KDJA adviser Jacqueline Atiqah David.
