KUCHING: The inaugural Sarawak Pavilion made its debut at the International Incentive Travel, Meetings, and Events (IMEX) Frankfurt 2023, Germany, representing a major milestone for Sarawak in establishing itself as a prominent player in the global business events industry.

Themed ‘Tribe Legacy Sarawak’, the pavilion showcased the region’s rich heritage and noteworthy developments during the event, which took place from May 3 to 25.

According to a press release yesterday, the launch of the Sarawak Pavilion was graced by the presence of Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

“With the aim of propelling Sarawak as a driving force in business events, this initiative perfectly aligned with the Post COVID-19 Sarawak Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

“It also augurs and aligns well with what our Premier said during the Anak Sarawak Awards in Kuching recently that Sarawak will become the first legacy capital for business events in Malaysia and Borneo.

“The focus of the strategy emphasised on six pivotal economic sectors namely, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, tourism, forestry, and services, which are supported by seven key enablers namely digital transformation, innovation, education, infrastructure, utilities, transportation and renewable energy,” Snowdan said.

He said that they are changing the narrative about the role of business events from delegate numbers and expenditure to its bigger legacy impact picture where event owners and hosts can also achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG).

“Furthermore the pavilion also provided a platform for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to showcase their products and beverages, further exemplifying Sarawak’s commitment to supporting its local communities.”

The launch at IMEX Frankfurt showcased Sarawak’s potential to attract and host international business events, driving economic growth and positioning itself as a premier destination for conferences, meetings, and incentives.
