KUCHING: The Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam), Sarawak Branch donated a sum of RM193,000 to the Education Department here on Wednesday (June 23).

The money would be used to organise drug awareness programmes and activities in 193 secondary schools statewide.

Sarawak Pemadam chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the cheque to Sarawak Education Department Director Dr Norisah Suhaili.

Abdul Karim, who is also Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, said the grant was the first of its kind from Sarawak Pemadam to reach out to the community, particularly students.

“For the past few months, Sarawak Pemadam had also given out over RM38,000 to various schools that had organised such programmes and activities, including the recent state-level National Anti-Drugs Day 2021 that had garnered an encouraging response from students and teachers.”

He also praised the Sarawak Education Department for its support towards the initiative.
