KUCHING: Sarawak PKR is taking a silent stand following speculations that two Members of Parliament from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will be appointed as federal ministers.
The state PKR Information chief Vernon Kedit said because it was a rumour, it was not wise to make any comments on it.
“It’s just a rumour, so we wait and see. After the announcement is made, then it is possible to comment. Furthermore the appointment of cabinet members is the rights of the prime minister, we cannot violate it,” he told a media conference here yesterday.
He expected the Prime Minister to make an announcement today because according to him, a Sarawak PKR member is already in Kuala Lumpur since Sunday.
Meanwhile, Batang Lupar PKR Branch chief Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh said the setting up of the new party, Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (SEDAR) would not receive support from the Malay community in Sarawak.
The former Sarawak PKR deputy chairman said the Malay community in Sarawak was more inclined towards the PKR.
“In fact several branches and members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) have joined PKR, they are applying to become PKR members online,” he said, adding PKR was gaining support because of the people’s growing confidence towards the party.
Earlier it was reported that the formation of Parti Sedar was to be an alternative to PBB and PKR to gain the support of the Malays in Sarawak.
However the Parti Sedar protem meeting scheduled for last week was postponed to a later date that had yet to be fixed due to unforeseen circumstances. Hence the establishment of the party had to be temporarily suspended, according to its founder Datuk Othman Abdillah.
