KUCHING: The Pan Borneo Highway project demonstrates the capabilities of the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) to manage mega projects.

State PWD director Datuk Richard Tajan said the appointment PWD as the project administrator provides opportunities for engineers and experts to contribute their expertise.

He said PWD has reorganised its offices statewide to ensure a more effective people-focused service delivery.

“A Pan Borneo Highway branch under the state department has been formed, comprising local engineers and experts from various backgrounds appointed to
concentrate on the implementation of this mega project.

“This proves that Sarawak PWD is capable of handling large-scale projects at regional or federal levels.

“Recent improvements to work processes, organisational restructuring and policies highlight our efforts to enhance service efficiency,” he said.

He was speaking at the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak Dreams Become Reality dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching last night (Dec 3).

He also reaffirmed the strong commitment between the Sarawak and federal governments till the completion of the project, espousing the spirit of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ which is embraced by the parties involved.

He was grateful the people’s dream has now become a reality with the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway to be completed by the end of the year.

“For Sarawak PWD, all the experiences gained in managing this project will serve as a guide to further enhance the efficiency of our local talents, especially our engineers, in managing any infrastructure development projects in Sarawak,” he added.
