Sarawak records 25 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 25 new positive Covid-19 cases here today, – the highest daily spike in recent months, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 985.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said of the total, 19 were close contacts to the existing Covid-19 clusters. All the new cases were recorded in Kuching.

Case 973 is a local man who was screened for the second time on Nov 5 as he had close contact with Case 871, classified under Baki Cluster.

Meanwhile, Greenhill Cluster reported nine new cases – five females and four males with age ranging from 20 to 68.

They are Case 969 – a friend of Case 824, Case 970 – a friend to Case 816, Case 971 – a maid to Case 818, Case 972 and Case 981 – social friends to Case 818, Case 974 – a friend to Case 823, Case 978 – a friend to Case 843, Case 979 – a contact to Case 872, and Case 982 – a sibling to Case 841.

“All of their swab tests were taken on Nov 5 and 6. They do not show any symptoms for the virus. They have been admitted to isolation wards at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” said Uggah at a press conference on Covid-19 update here today.

For Wisma Saberkas Cluster, there are seven new cases involving four females and three males aged 17 to 65.

They are Case 961 and 964 – a father and a friend to Case 934; Case 962 – a mother to Case 932; Case 965, 966 and 967 – friends and family members to Case 933; as well as Case 976 – a woman who frequents the shopping mall.

Two of the new cases are from the Seladah Cluster involving Case 968 who is a family member to Case 711 while Case 977 is an eight year old boy – a son to Case 795.

Uggah mentioned that of the six other cases outside the clusters, Case 963 is a local middle aged woman who was screened before undergoing surgery.

“Additionally, Case 975 is an Indonesian pilot who underwent screening test at a private hospital on Nov 6 before flying to his home-country. He entered Sarawak through Kuching International Airport on Oct 26,” he said.

Meanwhile, four new cases were of those who underwent screening by themselves as they felt they had made contact with some positive cases in Kuching.

They are Case 980 – a male civil servant who had a travel history to Sabah on July 31, Case 983 – a female senior citizen, Case 984 – a male senior citizen, and Case 985 – a local man who had a close contact with Case 936.

Uggah also stressed that none of them showed any symptom for the virus and they had been admitted to isolation wards in SGH.

Apart from that, there were five new recovery and discharged cases from SGH, bringing the number of recoveries and discharged cases to 812 or 82.44 percent.

As of today, there were a total of 154 cases still receiving treatment at hospitals — 125 in isolation wards at SGH, 25 in Miri Hospital, two in Bintulu Hospital and two in Sibu Hospital.

The death toll in the state remains at 19 or 1.93 percent as no deaths were reported.

Meanwhile, 47 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and six are awaiting laboratory test results.

Sarawak still have six active clusters at present – Baki Cluster, Greenhill Cluster, Wisma Saberkas Cluster, Bah Arnab Cluster, Seladah Cluster and Putra Cluster.

Kuching is presently a red zone, while Miri, Lundu and Limbang are yellow zones. The other 36 districts in the state remain as green zones.
