Sarawak records four new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded four new Covid-19 cases here today, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 1,062.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Case 1,059 and 1,060 were two locals who had just returned from Sabah by plane from Kota Kinabalu to Kuching on Nov 25.

“They underwent screening upon arrival at Kuching International Airport and checked into the designated hotel for mandatory quarantine.

“Both cases were found positive for the virus on the same day.”

Meanwhile, Case 1,061 and 1,062 are two locals who had just returned from Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat on Nov 24.

“They are family members of a security officer at the Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat.

“They arrived in Sarawak through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Tebedu in Serian and checked into the quarantine centre here to undergo mandatory quarantine.

“Both cases underwent screening on Nov 24 and were found positive for the virus today.”

All four cases did not show any sign or symptom, and have been admitted to isolation wards at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Contact tracing is underway.

As for recovery and discharged cases, six were reported at SGH and one at Miri Hospital, bringing the total number to 1,015 or 95.57 percent.

As of today, there were 28 cases still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely 25 at SGH, two at Sibu Hospital and one at Miri Hospital.

On the other hand, 43 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported with none awaiting lab test results.

Sarawak still has six active clusters, namely Jalan Abell, Baki, Greenhill, Wisma Saberkas, Seladah and Besi.

Kuching has moved into the orange zone at present, while Miri and Lawas remain yellow.
