Sarawak records one new case

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case here today, bringing the total number to 1,075.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Case 1,075 is a local female student of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) who returned to the state from Kota Kinabalu via Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Dec 11.

“She underwent an RTK antigen test on Dec 9 as a condition for permission to travel out of Sabah. However, the result was found to be not reactive for Covid-19 and was allowed to travel back to Sarawak.

“Upon arrival, she was screened and immediately ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine for 14 days. Her rT-PCR test result was found positive for the virus on Dec 12,” it said in a statement.

The case did not show any signs and symptoms and has been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

She was categorised as Import B case, that is, individuals got infected while visiting high risk areas abroad.

SDMC also reported that there was no new recovery and discharged cases, bringing the total number to 1,043 or 97.02 percent.

As of today, there were 13 cases still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely eleven at SGH, one at Miri Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital.

On the other hand, only one new person-under-investigation (PUI) case was reported with one awaiting lab test results.
